THE NEW GEOGRAPHY OF SUB-ZONES: ROMAGNA SANGIOVESE BY ALESSANDRO MASNAGHETTI
The Consorzio Vini di Romagna is proud to officially unveil the new sub-zone map of Romagna Sangiovese, a detailed cartographic project by Alessandro Masnaghetti. As one of the world’s preeminent experts in vineyard zoning, Masnaghetti’s rigorous analysis of soil and exposure has helped define the narrative of the world’s most prestigious terroirs. The publication of this map marks a major milestone in promoting the unique character of Romagna, providing both a scientific and educational framework to understand the nuances that distinguish every glass of Sangiovese based on its specific origin.
THE STORY OF ROMAGNA BETWEEN INDIGENOUS VARIETIES AND TERROIR
While Romagna Sangiovese DOC remains a milestone, Vinitaly 2026 serves as a premier showcase for the full spectrum of the region’s winemaking excellence. At the dedicated tasting desks, visitors can explore local PDO (DOP) and PGI (IGP) wines and engage directly with the people behind the labels.
A key highlight will be Romagna Albana DOC, the first Italian white wine to receive the DOCG status, famed for its remarkable structure, depth, and freshness. The institutional stand will also feature a selection of Novebolle Romagna DOC Spumante, a sparkling wine that bridges 19th-century tradition with a vibrant, modern soul. The presentation is further enriched by the lively Rimini Rebola, represented by producers from the Consorzio Strada dei Vini e dei Sapori dei Colli di Rimini, and other indigenous red and white varieties that embody the region’s fresh and sophisticated viticultural offering.
